ÁREA DE CONSERVACIÓN GUANACASTE


Parque Nacional Rincon de la Vieja
Location: On the provinces of Guanacaste and Alajuela.
Area information: Created on October 23, 1973. With approximately 600,000 years of existence, the massif Rincón de la Vieja is a compound structure, where 9 volcanic foci have been identified. The active cratef elevates to 1,860 meters, with its almost vertical and vegetationless walls. On the southern end of the volcano, there is an area with thermal waters, fumaloric lagoons, mud pools, and vapour.


Parque Nacional Santa Rosa
Location: On the province of Guanacaste, 36 Km North of Liberia, and the area of Murciélago located southeast of the town of Guajiniquil.
Area information: Created on March 20, 1972. It is the area of greatest historic significance of the country. An old house and stone stables were the stage of the Santa Rosa Battle, on March 20, 1856. The park is important for the protection and restauration of the habitats of the region known as Dry Pacific. The beaches Nancite and Naranjo are of great beauty and important nesting sites for Ridley, leatherback, and green turtle of the Pacific. In Nancite take place the largest arrivals of turtles of tropical America.
